They fall in love with each other while studying in school merely unfortunately end up separating because of familial and fiscal pressure. Half dozen years later, all the same, they find that in that location'south no escape from honey when they cross paths once once again while interning in the same hospital.
I loved the whole cast in this series, peculiarly Song Ji Hyo (from Running Man). The show has everything I want in a proficient drama—a wonderful story, cute and funny scenes, some fighting activity, a great cast, and plenty of lessons in morality. This is also one of just a few M-dramas I've seen with a totally satisfying ending (cue bloopers and ambrosial flashbacks!).
14. Doctor Stranger
First Aired: 2014
Episodes: xx
Directors: Jin Hyuk and Hong Jong-chan
Subgenres: Medical, romance
Do you lot dearest action, romance, and medicine all wrapped into a supremely intriguing drama? Then you will probably obsess over Doctor Stranger for all 20 episodes. But beware—this series isn't quite every bit formulaic or anticipated equally another Korean dramas. Yous will understand what I mean once you get into it.
Park Hoon, a young lad from Southward Korea, gets kidnapped by North Korean operatives forth with his male parent, world-famous surgeon Park Cheol, who is brought to North korea to operate on the "Dear Leader" (dictator). The patient'south health improves, but the father-and-son duo daren't out of the wood yet. Park Hoon grows up in North Korea, training to become a md under his father. He soon falls securely in love with a beautiful girl, simply North Korean operatives put a target on his back. Watch the series to discover how Park Hoon will escape the land and whether he volition succeed in the search for his first love!
Doctor Stranger has a unique and satisfying storyline. Its plot is understandable, intriguing, and sufficiently unpredictable. I recommend this serial to anyone who is interested in medical dramas, but I certainly don't recommend it to anyone who is squeamish about claret. That said, it definitely fabricated me cry on multiple occasions and kept me glued to the screen until I had binge-watched the whole series.

13. Liar Game
Start Aired: 2014
Episodes: 12
Managing director: Kim Hong-sun
Subgenres: Mystery, thriller
If you lot like tricky math games and dark manga, this drama is worth checking out. Liar Gamedoes a great task of posing catchy questions and providing non-answers in a style that had me insatiably curious to finally go to the catastrophe. At 12 episodes, it's a pretty like shooting fish in a barrel series to binge-watch. (If you lot are looking for even more short and rampage-able serial, check out this list of Thousand-dramas you can watch in 1 weekend.)
The prove is based on the Japanese manga of the aforementioned proper name. The drama revolves around contestants that take part in a reality game show called Liar Game in which ordinary people are given the opportunity to earn millions of dollars. The contestant who manages to cheat the others ends up equally the winner.
One of the contestants is a naive girl who wants to pay off her father's debt. She gets help from a genius swindler and former psychology professor to win the show. The show itself perfectly illustrates how greed can upend morals and shows how far some people will go to get money.
I haven't read the manga or seen the Japanese version, so I can't make any comparisons, merely I can say that the story was interesting and the drama thrilled me and kept me guessing throughout all of its tightly plotted 12 episodes.
12. City Hunter
First Aired: 2011
Episodes: 20
Director: Jin Hyuk
Subgenres: Action, thriller
If yous are looking for a dramatic series full of action, martial arts fights, a well-thought revenge plot, and romance, then give this one a shot. Urban center Hunter is the secret identity of Lee Yoon Sung, a homo whose just purpose in life is to become revenge on those who killed his male parent many years before. Yoon-Sung has been training for this vengeance since he was a child, and he distances himself from anyone who distracts him from his task. Despite his best efforts, he faces a tough challenge as he develops feelings for a woman he works with.
I loved how the director balanced romance with the attraction of revenge. In that location were moments when the tension was just killing me. Just don't spotter besides many episodes in a row, or you lot might have a heart attack.
11. Healer
First Aired: 2014
Episodes: xx
Directors: Lee Jung-sub and Kim Jin-woo
Subgenres: Action, thriller, romance
This 1 is another activeness-drama. Actually, it has a little bit of everything—drama, action, romance, and mystery. Healer is a series y'all should include on your watchlist only considering of its bully performances and storyline. The series follows a star reporter who seeks the help of a spy named Healer to help him to unveil the nighttime truth behind the people who have been in power for too long.
I loved the acting by the entire cast of Healer. This gripping and intense drama will accept you lot on the edge of your seat and provoke a wide range of emotions as you lot become attached to its characters. I loved that both the male and female characters were strong. It's a solid dearest story without whatsoever of the clichéd comedic honey triangles. If you relish good action, romance, and political drama, this series is definitely for you.
10. Kill Me, Heal Me
Outset Aired: 2015
Episodes: 20
Directors: Kim Jin-human and Kim Dae-jin
Subgenres: Romance, one-act, medical, suspense
Center-wrenching, heartwarming, and unforgettable—these are the words that came to listen after I finished this bear witness. Kill Me, Heal Me is a one-act-drama about a third-generation billionaire who suffers from memory lapses and multiple personality disorder caused past a traumatic experience in his childhood. As his personality scatters into seven unlike identities, he secretly asks for the assistance of a start-year psychiatry student in treating his disorder. Eventually, she falls in love with ane of his personalities.
What sets this series apart from the average medical drama are its constant twists and turns. Information technology'south almost impossible to get bored while watching it since something heady in every episode. If yous are tired of typical dramas with predictable plots, I definitely advise you to lookout man Kill Me, Heal Me.
9. Moonlight Drawn by Clouds/Love in the Moonlight
First Aired: 2016
Episodes: 18
Directors: Kim Sung-yoon and Baek Sang-hoon
Subgenres: Historical, coming-of-historic period, romance, one-act
Moonlight Drawn by Clouds, or Love in the Moonlight every bit information technology's besides often called, is a historical romance with some lite melodrama. Information technology features a lovely, charismatic cast along with fantastic sets, costumes, and writing. Its affect of mod humor gives information technology a fun and playful feel.
This historical coming-of-age drama tells the story of a prince that falls deeply in love with a girl disguised every bit a eunuch. The pair faces a series of formidable challenges every bit they battle the odds to protect their secret relationship and overcome threats to the throne. The starting time half of the series focuses primarily on the couple's romance and fun dynamic, while the second one-half centers primarily on politics.
This show definitely took me for a ride. I don't think it is an exaggeration to say that Beloved in the Moonlight is an exceptional coming-of-age drama. If y'all similar this ane, consider checking out these other historical K-dramas.
viii. Prison Playbook
First Aired: 2017
Episodes: 16
Director: Shin Won-ho
Subgenre: Black comedy
This series has many things to offer. Each story it tells volition bear on y'all, and you volition dear each of the main characters. Its portrayal of friendships—both in and out of prison—is heartwarming.
Prison Playbook tells the story of a baseball player who is sentenced to prison time. Flashbacks from the past slowly reveal why he and another characters ended up incarcerated. The characters' personal stories are absolutely cute, but overall, the testify feels more like a comedy than a criminal offence/law drama.
Although information technology did seem a scrap vague and unclear at the beginning, I ended up enjoying this series quite a fleck. In the first few episodes, I learned very little about the story and characters, as each episode focuses on ane particular struggle that the lead character goes through. As the story continued to unfold, however, I saw more dazzler in it and learned more about the characters.
seven. Guardian: The Lonely and Not bad God/Goblin
Offset Aired: 2016
Episodes: 16
Directors: Lee Eung-bok, Kwon Hyuk-chan, and Yoon Jong-ho
Subgenres: Fantasy, romance
If you like fantasy romances with stories that span centuries, yous should give this one a try. Goblin (also known past other names including Guardian: The Solitary and Great God) is an interesting ride with a fresh and unique story told beautifully beyond sixteen episodes in a visually stunning manner.
The story focuses on a modern-day goblin, or protector of souls. He needs a human bride to end his cursed immortal life. When he finally finds her, withal, he realizes that he doesn't actually want his life to end.
Goblin made me laugh as often every bit it made me weep. I was diddled away by its epic love story, spectacular bromance, heartwarming romance, and unrelenting mystery and suspense! The unique premise blended perfectly with the mystery of the characters and the unexpectedness of the drama.
6. Pinocchio
Outset Aired: 2014
Episodes: 20
Directors: Jo Soo-won and Shin Seung-woo
Subgenres: Family, romance, one-act
Are y'all looking for a drama with a complex story? Watch this ane and you will be stunned over how but how much information technology manages to pack into twenty episodes. Pinocchio tells the story of a man who was terribly wronged by a common cold-hearted reporter. All the man can think about is revenge. Suddenly, he develops feelings for the daughter of his enemy. The girl has "Pinocchio syndrome," so every fourth dimension she lies, she also hiccups. More often than non, this forces her to tell the truth.
I institute this M-drama so gripping and intelligently written that I but didn't want information technology to terminate. Initially, I decided to watch information technology but because of its main theme, which is relevant today in the era of faux news and misleading headlines. In hindsight, withal, my favorite things about it were the roughshod development of the characters, their thought-provoking decisions, and their utterly unexpected deportment.
5. Woman of Nobility
Beginning Aired: 2017
Episodes: 20
Director: Kim Yoon-chul
Subgenres: Mystery, thriller
If you are looking for an intense and fast-paced mature drama with excellent interim, dialog, and comedic flourishes, you should requite this melodrama a go. Woman of Dignity centers on the life of a rich family. The comfortable life of the elegant Woo Ah-Jin, who lives a luxurious life due to her wealthy father-in-constabulary, slowly comes apart with the arrival of the new flagman for the rich man. Park Bok-Ja, the new flagman, is a poor woman. She enters the household with a singular goal—to get role of the family and lift herself out of the lower class once and for all.
When I discovered at that place were two female leads in this series, I was immediately hooked. But there are also many supporting characters that each take their ain interesting story. I was glad that the series did not focus entirely on male-female romance (every bit and so many K-dramas tend to do) and instead explored not-romantic interpersonal relationships and relatable societal woes.
4. Strong Woman Do Bong Soon
Kickoff Aired: 2017
Episodes: 16
Manager: Lee Hyung-min
Subgenres: Fantasy, thriller, romance, one-act
If you are still looking for a fun drama that mixes romantic comedy with some darker crime elements (and features adorable leads with unreal levels of cuteness), then Strong Woman Exercise Bong Shortly should exist your next watch. This testify is fronted past a stiff heroine and an appreciative, dreamy hero.
On the outside, Do Bong Soon seems to be small and fragile, simply she is actually a woman with superior strength handed down to her from female members of her family. She wants to keep this secret, as she has fears of being considered a weirdo. 1 day, Ahn Min Hyuk, the CEO of a game company, witnesses her powers. The man becomes attracted to and intrigued by her. Before long, he faces a threat to his life, so he decides to hire the girl as his babysitter.
3. The Heirs
Starting time Aired: 2013
Episodes: 20
Directors: Kang Shin-hyo and Boo Sung-chul|
Subgenres: Teen, romance
The Heirs is a satisfying drama that tells the story of star-crossed lovers Kim Tan and Become Eun Sang. Kim Tan is the rich heir to the Empire Group. He comes to the U.S. to nourish school. While living in the states, he meets Go Eun Sang, who came to the country with her sister with the hope of a amend life. Tan meets Sang at the lowest moment of her life. His heart breaks for her and he decides to accept her to his home in Korea. Things go complicated when nosotros discover that Eun Sang'south mother is a housekeeper in Tan'southward home. And there are even more surprises ahead.
The storyline is nada groundbreaking, but it's a fascinating new have on something anybody has watched a million times. I like that it's mod, youthful, quirky, funny, and equal parts romantic and distressing. It'due south a great show for those days when you want to experience warm and comfortable.
2. My Love From the Star/You Who Came from the Stars
First Aired: 2013
Episodes: 21
Manager: Jang Tae-yoo
Subgenres: Sci-fi, fantasy, romance, comedy
If you are a fan of fantasy melodramas, you should definitely check this one out. This drama took the world—not just Korea—by tempest when it aired. My Love From Another Star (too called Yous Who Came from the Stars) tells the story of a centuries-old conflicting with superpowers. He is trapped on World and is working equally a university professor. All he tin can think of is how to get dorsum home, simply he changes his heed when he meets a popular actress.
This Grand-drama has everything I could possibly want. It has believable and charismatic leads, an evil villain, romance, comedy, melodrama, and time-travel all blended together in 21 must-run into episodes. I definitely recommend My Beloved from the Star to fans of sci-fi, teleportation, and fourth dimension stopping. Each of these concepts is presented here in a breathtaking mode. The not bad chemistry between the ii leads and the series' unique sense of humor kept me watching until the end.
one. Descendants of the Sun
Start Aired: 2016
Episodes: xvi
Directors: Lee Eung-bok and Baek Sang-hoon
Subgenres: Romance, activity
Descendants of the Sun was a mega-hit when it first aired on TV. Information technology had ratings of over 40% and it won several KBS drama awards. Since the series was produced before its airing, the storyline couldn't be extended simply due to viewer ratings. Apparently, that'due south the reason why information technology ended after xvi episodes despite its massive popularity.
This honey story revolves effectually a woman who is leading a medical team that saves the lives of a special forces unit that carries out secret missions. The action is set in Uruk, a fictitious country in a state of war. The protagonist and the helm of the unit both deal with life-and-death situations every solar day. Simply will they seek love and risk heartbreak in the midst of all this?
The series is rounded out past an awesome cast, nice music, a wonderful storyline, and bully chemical science betwixt the leads. Information technology's safe to say that whatsoever One thousand-drama fan is unlikely to come out disappointed. I enjoyed the romance in the series, and it as well gave me a rare look at the sacrifices that our real-life doctors and service people brand. In my opinion, Descendants of the Sun is worthy of all the fizz and loftier ratings it received.
Bonus: Must-Watch Romantic Korean Dramas (and Comedies)
Romantic comedy is easily the nearly pop genre of K-drama. At that place are many common tropes that are frequently seen in these types of series, such as a handsome male person lead searching for his true love, an awkward-but-comedic comedic beloved triangle, or star-crossed lovers overcoming obstacles together. Here are some recommendations for the best romantic one-act Thou-dramas out at that place.
- Successful Story of a Bright Girl
- Full House

Jacqueline G Rozell on August 05, 2020:
And so many good Asian dramas. I take watched many of them multiple times. The merely thing that I don't like are the ones with and then many episodes that spend 10 or fifteen of them with the couples autonomously. Information technology's amend when they are together, even if they are fighting.

This listing needs to be updated with dramas such as The K-two, Vagabond, Arthdal, King: Eternal Monarch, and others. Tunnel, while I am not sure of its age, is fabled, as is some of the others at present on Netflix.
Elizabeth on July 30, 2020:
Why recommend the formula and makjang-ish blazon of dramas?
The only one that deserves to be in a top 15 list from here, is Prison house Playbook, tbh. Kdramas have move on, they're not all the same soap opera anymore.
I hateful, there are dramas like Cloak-and-dagger Forest, Black, FBND, Ho Gu's Honey, Love Diplomacy in the Afternoon, Sky Castle, Hello Monster, My Ahjussi, Alive, Only Between Lovers, IOTL, Misaeng, Answer 88', Search World wide web, Be Melodramatic and Moments of eighteen; so putting The Heirs, Urban center Hunter, etc, in the list is kinda annoying, after all the crap people talk nigh kdramas beingness bad productions.
Ps. never trust the ratings and the popularity of the drama
Jacqueline G Rozell on July 28, 2020:
Nevertheless accept to give Vagabond the Number One identify for best drama. The K-ii is right up at that place and King: Eternal Monarch is a wonderful drama and love story. Arthdal is first-class as well. Rooting difficult for function 2 of Vagabond and Arthdal.
