what wattage should i get for a corn snake?

Answer by

Chewy

Jan 11, 2019

The 60W is a common wattage used for corn snakes, but this ultimately depends on the distance of the bulb from your pet. If the light were to be placed too near to an enclosure, it might cause it to become too hot for the reptile. A good indication that it is too hot or uncomfortable would be if the reptile is always found in the cooler areas of the cage (under a rock, in a shadow, in the water dish). Fix this problem immediately either by moving the light further away or purchasing a bulb with a lower wattage.

is it safe for my turtle

This lamp is suitable for turtles.

Is this bulb ok for a bearded dragon basking area? I was told colored bulbs aren't good for them but this doesn't seem to give off blue light.

Answer by

This lamp is not recommended for a bearded dragon. A bearded dragon needs a basking (hot spot) under the bulb of 95-105 degrees F. A basking spot lamp directs heat straight down from the bulb. The size of their tank and the temperature in the room will determine what wattage bulb is needed.

How hot will this bulb get? For a 20-gallon tank.

The bulb can get very hot, however, the filament will not reach high temperatures but the surface glass will. Depending on your reptile, the size of your tank, housing temperatures, and many other factors will determine how hot the terrarium will get. However, a 60 watt bulb is a general place to start for a 20 gallon tank.

Bulb Died Quicker Than Expected

I bought this bulb about 7 months ago for my baby corn snake but about a month ago, my lamp stopped working. I thought the lamp its self died so I bought a new one yet I've found that the bulb was the issue. The bulb worked great but the life time of it seemed really short. All round, good light but still expected more time out of this bulb.

Do not buy this bulb

I have bought this bulb twice now and it doesn't even last a full month.

I wanted it to work...

I bought this bulb for a ball python enclosure. It didn't illuminate much even for a "moonlight" type of bulb. Also, it only lasted for 3 night cycles! Less than 36 hours of use time before it died. Im going to look for a diff one & until they change something, I suggest you do the same.

GreatService

I ordered 2 of these bulbs. One didn't work (assuming damage in delivery). But chewy made it right immediately! They sent me a new one ASAP.

NO Daylight Blue

Does not show break in tensile connection, but bulb fails to work in reptile clamp lamps.

good light

Used these lights before and they last quite a while. Recommend

worst light bulb

I had these for a week and they blew out. Definitely don't waste your money on these

By Kaylee on Feb 20, 2021

Don't Last

Didn't even last a month. The filament inside the bulb snapped. Not worth the cost by any means. I would not recommend these at all.

Terrible bulbs that last a few weeks... if you're lucky.

These bulbs are garbage. They don't last. You will get, at the very most, a few weeks of light. Most of these bulbs I received lasted about 2-3 weeks and my most recent purchase gave me a solid 4 days of light for my turtle. This is a terrible product. I had to write this review as a warning for anyone about to drop their hard earned money on this trash. Avoid.

Doesn't last!

I went through 8 of these in the past month. I've tried different fixtures, different rooms, etc. One did not work at all, another only lasted a couple of hours. The longest I had one last was 4 days (12 hrs on/12 off).
